Copy the full contents of the CD to a temp dir, except for the following files:
\gnome\data\waves\music\*.wav (these wave files are oversized)
\install\cd.idx (oversized and not needed anyway)
Use a wave-editor to load the ..\music\*.wav files and then save them to HD, this will resize them automatically (Format should be PCM 22050 16 bits Stereo).
Use a Hex-Editor to load the \install\racenabl.dat file and save it to HD, it will also be resized.
Store the resized files in their original directory (if not already done).
Burn the the contents of the temporary directory to a 74 minutes CD-R using this CD-Label: racer100_0
The wave files are oversized and contain dummy data to make the CD bigger than it should be. By converting them the dummy data is removed. Wave Studio, which comes with the Creative Soundblaster Cards, was used to convert the files:
Load the oversized *.wav File.
Copy it to clipboard.
Create a new wave (Format 22050.....).
Paste the clipboard and save with the filename. Otherwise the resized file will be about 89 Mb.
Copy the Music directory, which is located in the <CD>:\Gnome\Data\wavs\, from the CD
to the <GameDir>\Data\wavs\ directory. Use a Wave Editor and save them to <GameDir>\Data\wavs\Music, because if they are copied they will have a incorrect filesize (about 666 Mb each!).
Copy the Anims directory, which is located in the <CD>:\Gnome\Data\, from the CD
to the <GameDir>\Data\ directory.
Extract the File Archive to the game directory, overwriting the original files.
Use a text editor to open Racer.REG and change the Paths so they point to the <GameDir>.
Execute/Double-Click the Racer.REGfile.
Start Racer.exe and configure your hardware and play the game without CD.
From the action-bar choose File and select

In some cases it is better to use the CD-Writer as Source CD-Reader as it is usually better able to read unreadable sectors. Keep in mind that only a few CD-Readers/CD-Writers are capable creating a CD-Image of the original CD.
